Thomas DeMello
Quint Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition by San Diego-based artist Thomas DeMello. This is Thomas DeMello’s first solo exhibition at the gallery and he will be exhibiting new drawings and sculpture. The opening reception will take place on Saturday, January 28th from 10am to 1pm and is open to the public.
Thomas DeMello’s colored pencil drawings are gestural marks inspired by long drives from his home to work and his niece’s uninhibited drawing technique (that of a toddler). DeMello used the opportunity of being in congested traffic to look – from the marks on the pavement to the leftover paint from vehicles having hit dividers, the drawings mark the paper with swift movements and intentionally don’t stay within the bounds. A site-specific charcoal drawing made by using the torched ends of tree branches will be featured alongside a sculpture made of the same branches.
Thomas DeMello is one of the co-founders of Ice Gallery in San Diego, where he collaborated on a number of exhibitions and site-specific installations.
