Allan McCollum | Perfect Vehicle, 1988
Quint ONE debuts a 1988 sculpture by Los Angeles-born, NY-based artist Allan McCollum. From this series which began in 1985, McCollum depicted an iconic sculptural form in order to investigate the ways in which a single object can contain cultural meaning. All of the Perfect Vehicle sculptures bear the same shape—that of a Chinese ginger jar, a traditional vessel that has been copied and reproduced for centuries. Early works in the series were 1.5 feet tall, but in 1988 he scaled them up, this one measuring 6.5 feet tall.
On view beginning Saturday, December 4. Hours: Tues-Sun 11am-4pm
