Jean Lowe | POW!
Quint ONE is pleased to present POW!, a new site-specific work by San Diego-based artist Jean Lowe.
Lowe stages an environment mirroring a modernist gallery, combining sculptural decorative elements like plants and a “carpet” with a wall painting of “framed” renditions of three works by Picasso, de Kooning, and Pollock. POW!, an acronym for portraits of women, playfully questions the depiction of women as fierce, crazy shrews as a building block of modernist iconography.
Jean Lowe’s artwork has been exhibited in solo museum presentations at the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City; the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego; and The Contemporary Arts Center, Cincinnati. Lowe’s work can be found in the permanent collections at the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation; the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego; the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art, Utah State University; and the San Diego Museum of Art.
