Overview

Adrien Couvrat was born in Paris in 1981. A graduate of the École Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris and trained at IRCAM, he explores painting, drawing, sound and video, experimenting with the chromatic vibrations of light. Adrien Couvrat work integrates the innovations of the optical and kinetic art of the 1960s, whose revival we have witnessed over the past 15 years or so, as well as the “pictorial dynamism” of the futurist painters (Boccioni, Balla, Severini). Adrien Couvrat's modern art paintings made with coloured striae and projected pigments capture the metamorphoses of light and mobilise participation by spectators, whose movement in the exhibition space contributes to their sensorial experience. In 2009, he was awarded the Nicolas Feuillate Young Hope Prize. In 2015, he participated in the exhibition Desdemona, between Desire and Despair at the Institut du Monde Arabe with a 20-metre installation, and showed work at the Qingdao Sculpture Art Museum in Shandong (China). This was followed in 2016 by exhibitions at the Musée des Arts et Métiers (Paris) and the Centre d’Art Contemporain Les Tanneries (Amilly). Adrien Couvrat lives and works in Paris.
